What’s on in Essex This Christmas?

Christmas is on the way and as the festive season approaches, Essex comes alive with events, celebrations and activities for all the family to enjoy. Here at Amber Coaches we love a good Christmas celebration, so wanted to provide you with a what’s on guide to some of our favourite events that you can head to in the lead up to December 25th.


Enjoy The Magic of Christmas at Colchester Zoo

The festivities start early at Colchester Zoo with ‘The Magic of Christmas’ event starting on 28th November and on various dates right up to Christmas Eve. Festive family fun is the order of the day as children have the opportunity to meet Santa in his enchanted grotto and a staff performance of Aladdin is sure to keep everyone entertained.

Take a Trip on the Santa Special at Epping Ongar

The Epping Ongar Railway are running a number of ‘Santa Special’ trains from 5th December and on selected dates through to 24th December along their award winning heritage railway. As the train travels through the beautiful Essex countryside, Santa will be making his way along the carriages spreading Christmas cheer and handing out presents to the youngsters before you arrive at the ‘North Pole’ station.
Fun for all the family is guaranteed and for adults an extra special treat of a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie can be enjoyed on the journey, while all the children that have been good this year will receive a gift from Santa and his Elves!

Jingle All The Way to Barleylands This Christmas

Barleylands Farm Park begin their Christmas celebrations on December 1st with a range of craft studios who will be showcasing their wares on the night. There’s even a brand new giant snow globe – go and discover what’s inside!

Elf Workshop in Wyevale Garden Centre

Enjoy the ‘Elf Workshop’ at the Wyevale Garden Centre from 14th November to 24th December on selected dates and become one of Santa’s little helpers yourselves! Get involved with festive crafts and take home a special ‘Elf Graduate’ certificate to treasure forever.

Winter Wonderland and Ice Rink Fun at Castle Park

Castle Park are providing ‘Winter Wonderland and Ice Rink’ fun at Castle Park between 27th November this year to 3rd January 2016. For the first time Colchester gets to see the amazing and exciting fun filled event at Castle Park in Colchester.
Skate on the outdoor ice rink, stroll around the winter market for festive food and presents, or take a round on the fairground this Christmas at the Winter Wonderland and Ice Rink.

And a Few More…

– The Audley End Miniature Railway are running a number of Christmas specials from November 28th up to Christmas Eve, where the train stops at Santa’s grotto and the man himself meets all passengers and presents gifts to children.
– The Witham Public Hall play a number of theatre shows, pantomimes and concerts, from Mr Popcorn’s Christmas Magical Show and Johnny Cash’s Revisited Christmas Special to Festive Fury Wrestling.
Christmas is a fantastic time of year and, as you can see Essex is celebrating the season in style, so head out to support the local area and get well and truly into the festive spirit with your family and friends!
